US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Mai Cuisine Inc., an Allentown, Pennsylvania establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of 12-piece Shrimp Tempura Kabuki Sushi Roll WR from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention to minimize suffering and prevent life-changing injury.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Sushi products are subject to this recall:

  • Shrimp Tempura Kabuki Roll WR, sold in 12-piece plastic trays with a UPC of 8 4003140626 2

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Logo - Target StoresThese Sushi Rolls were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US state of California in specific Target Stores although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. According to the FDA, Mai Cuisine has recalled an estimated 67 trays of 12-piece Shrimp Tempura Kabuki Sushi Roll WR purchased from Target Stores in the state of California after an earlier recall for Frozen Shrimp by Avanti Frozen Foods Pvt. Ltd, caused by suspected Salmonella contamination in the primary Frozen Shrimp ingredient. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Sushi Rolls identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Sushi Rolls, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Sushi to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Please note: while these food products may be close to or past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased these products during the time period ranging from August 10, 2021 to August 15, 2021, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
