Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Whole Foods Market Canada, an Oakville, Ontario establishment, a Canadian subsidiary of Whole Foods Market, an Austin, Texas establishment and itself wholly owned by Seattle, Washington-based Amazon.com, recalls certain batch/lots of Cahills branded Porter Irish Cheddar from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and/or safety hazards, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Cheese products are subject to this recall:

  • Cahills branded Porter Irish Cheddar Cheese sold in variable sizes from June 23, 2021 to July 23, 2021 inclusive, with a UPC that starts with 0293579

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. The graphic below depicts an entire Wheel of Cahills branded Porter Irish Cheddar Cheese that may be available for sale at retail. This product, however, is more likely sold in wedges, after being cut and weighed at the store’s deli counter.

==> No batch/lot numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Cahill’s branded Original Irish Porter Cheese products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in two (2) Whole Foods Market Stores in the Canadian province of Ontario, specifically at the Toronto store at 87 Avenue Road and the Ottawa store at 951 Bank Street, although it is always possible these dairy food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Logo - Whole Foods Market CanadaAccording to the CFIA, Whole Foods Market Canada has recalled certain batch/lots of Cahill’s branded Original Irish Porter Cheese products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Dairy products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Cahill’s branded Original Irish Porter Cheese products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
