US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Cahill’s Farm Cheese, a County Limerick, Ireland establishment, recalls at least 33 batch/lots of Cahill’s branded Original Irish Porter Cheese, Cahill’s Irish Whiskey Cheese and Cahill’s Wine Cheese as well as several Cheese products from Lidl including Lidl branded Preferred Selection Irish Stout Cheddar Cheese and Lidl branded Preferred Selection Red Wine Cheddar Cheese from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risks of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Cheddar Cheese products are subject to this recall:

  • Cahill’s Original Irish Porter Cheese, packaged in 5-pound wheels or 1.1 kilogram half-moons with a batch/lot code ranging from 21109 to 21141
  • Cahill’s Irish Whiskey Cheese, packaged in 5-pound wheels with a batch/lot code ranging from 21109 to 21141
  • Cahill’s Wine Cheese, packaged in 5-pound wheels with a batch/lot code ranging from 21109 to 21141

Please note: the 5-pound Cheese wheels were sold into the US retail channel for further processing, specifically cutting, re-packing and re-wrapping as well as into the US foodservice channel for bulk use.

  • Lidl Preferred Selection Irish Stout Cheddar Cheese, packaged in 7-ounce (~200 gram) prepared packages with a batch/lot code ranging from 21109 to 21141 inclusive
  • Lidl Preferred Selection Red Wine Cheddar Cheese, packaged in 7-ounce (~200 gram) prepared packages with a batch/lot code ranging from 21109 to 21141 inclusive

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Cahill’s branded and Lidl branded Cheddar Cheese products are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all US states although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Cahill’s Farm Cheese has recalled at least 33 batch/lots of Cahill’s branded Original Irish Porter Cheese, Cahill’s Irish Whiskey Cheese and Cahill’s Wine Cheese as well as several Cheese products from Lidl including Lidl branded Preferred Selection – Irish Stout Cheddar Cheese and Lidl branded Preferred Selection – Red Wine Cheddar Cheese from the American marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Dairy products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Cahill’s and Lidl Cheddar Cheese products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the cheese to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Listeriosis.
