US FlagUS/Silver Spring: BrightFarms, a Rochelle, Illinois establishment, expands its existing recall for certain batch/lots of BrightFarms branded Packaged Salad Greens from the American marketplace to include its BrightFarms branded Baby Spinach products.

Earlier recall notifications were due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health and safety hazards, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Fresh Spinach products are subject to this recall:

  • BrightFarms branded Fresh Baby Spinach, sold in 4-ounce packages with a best-by date of 7/29/2021 with a UPC of 5706200439
  • BrightFarms branded Fresh Baby Spinach, sold in 8-ounce packages with a best-by date of 7/29/2021 with a UPC of 5706200449

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These BrightFarms branded Packaged Fresh Baby Spinach were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the following US states although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

  • Illinois: Mariano’s Fresh Markets, Walmart (select stores), Strack Van Till, Sullivan’s Foods, Caputo’s, Jewel-Osco
  • Indiana: Strack Van Till
  • Iowa: Walmart (select stores)
  • Wisconsin: Pick ‘n Save, Metro Market, Copps, Tadych’s, Walmart (select stores)
  • Michigan: Tadych’s

According to the FDA, BrightFarms has recalled certain batch/lots of BrightFarms branded Fresh Baby Spinach from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled vegetables identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Proposed Remedy:
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled BrightFarms branded Baby Spinach or any BrightFarms branded Salad Greens from previous recall notifications, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Vegetables to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
