Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Décathlon Canada Inc., a Brossard, Quebec establishment, recalls an estimated 727 Btwin branded Tailgate Bike Carriers from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected component detachment and consequential risks of falls, laceration, concussion, bone fractures and/or central nervous system (“CNS”) injury, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Bicycle Accessories are subject to this recall:

  • Btwin branded Tailgate branded Bike Carrier 300, consisting of a black car rack with space for two (2) to three (3) bikes, blue straps sold with a model number of 8342387
  • Btwin branded Tailgate branded Bike Carrier 320, consisting of a black car rack with space for two (2) to three (3) bikes, blue straps sold with a model number of 8357912

==> No barcodes, UPCs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Bicycle Accessories are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces although it is always possible these sports products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to Health Canada, improper installation of the Bike Racks and/or installation on an incompatible vehicle can cause the Racks to detach while in use, posing an injury hazard to people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use and to those nearby. As of June 30, 2021, the company has received one (1) report of a Bike Carrier detaching in Canada and no reports of injuries.
