Cavion branded Hoverboards

Cavion branded Hoverboards, packaged with a model number of GO 6.5 and a UPC of 5 901821 992572. This recall alert was submitted by Hungary to the EU Safety Gateway.

These Cavion branded Hoverboards products are marketed, sold and delivered as black and green colored self-balancing powered boards for use as personal transport devices for individuals and come equipped with a Lithium Ion Battery and Battery Charger device.

No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, batch/lot designations, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled Cavion branded Hoverboards include the reported finding that the recalled Hoverboards do not have a thermal cut-out device. Due to the fact that the Battery does not have a device that monitors the power cells’ temperature, the Charger may overheat during the charging process and the Hoverboard Cover may ignite. As a consequence, the Hoverboards may cause a fire and the rider may suffer burns and other injuries.

Furthermore, the dimensions of the socket outlet of Battery Charger are not suitable in that the operator of the device could touch the accessible live parts and receive an electric shock and/or burns.

In addition, the product reportedly features poor quality design and/or construction because the power cords, which are exposed to movement between the two motors, are routed through a steel pipe with rough edges at both ends. During the life of the Scooter, the insulation of the power cords will be damaged by the pipe’s sharp edges in such a way that the Battery may short-circuit and explode during use. As a result, the rider might lose control and fall off the Hoverboard and suffer injuries.

Cumulatively speaking, therefore, the recalled Hoverboard could overheat and catch fire during normal usage. In addition, an operator of the device could touch the live parts and receive an electric shock and/or burns when utilizing the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.
