These frozen ready-to-eat (“RTE”) Casey’s General Store, Jet’s Pizza, Little Caesars, Marco’s Pizza and Tyson branded Chicken products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold nationwide to retailers and institutions, including hospitals, nursing facilities, restaurants, schools and US Department of Defense locations although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within and outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the USDA, on June 9, 2021, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) was notified that two (2) people had fallen ill with Listeriosis. Working in conjunction with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) and state public health partners, FSIS determined there is evidence linking the Listeria monocytogenes illnesses to pre-cooked Chicken produced at Tyson Foods Inc.

The subsequent epidemiological investigation identified three (3) Listeriosis illnesses, including one (1) death, between April 6, 2021 and June 5, 2021. During routine sample collection, FSIS collected two (2) pre-cooked Chicken samples from two establishments that are closely related genetically to Listeria monocytogenes from ill people. One of the samples was collected at Tyson Foods Inc. FSIS is continuing to work with federal and state public health partners to determine if there have been additional illnesses linked to these products.

==> As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled frozen ready-to-eat (“RTE”) identified above.

==> For information about Listeriosis (Listeria poisoning), please consult the “Illnesses” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer or distributor for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Listeriosis.
