Canada/Ottawa: Loblaws Companies Limited, a Brampton, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 2,814 Joe Fresh branded Toddler’s and Kid’s Boy Functional Sandals from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected component detachment and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health hazards. In addition, component detachment may also product tripping and consequential risks of risks of falls, broken bones, lacerations and concussions, all serious safety hazards.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves certain children’s footwear product:

  • Joe Fresh branded Toddler’s Boy and Kid’s Boy Functional Sandals, sold as children’s footwear products in a Khaki Green colour design and with style numbers of S0BT007402 or S0BK007368

==> No barcodes, UPCs, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Sandals were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the following retail stores:

  • Joe Fresh, Real Canadian Superstore, Fortinos, Loblaws, nofrills and Your Independent stores in Ontario
  • Atlantic Superstore, Dominion, Joe Fresh and JoeFresh.com stores in Atlantic provinces
  • Joe Fresh, Maxi & Cie, Provigo and JoeFresh.com in Québec
  • Joe Fresh, Real Canadian Superstore, nofrills, Your Independent Grocer, Real Canadian Wholesale Club and JoeFresh.com in the western provinces

This said, it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to Health Canada, the front strap on the recalled Sandals may detach at the seam and may cause potential safety concern for tripping, as well may pose as a choking hazard to children. As of June 2021, the company had received one (1) report of a defective Sandals in Canada, and one (1) report of injury as a result of the defective Sandal to people who utilized the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.
