Canada FlagCanada/Ottawa: Phoenicia Group Inc., a Montreal, Quebec establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Al-Rabih branded Halva (Halawa) Sesame Paste from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Halva Sesame Paste products are subject to this recall:

  • Al-Rabih branded Halva (Halawa) Sesame Paste, sold in 454 gram (one pound) plastic tubs with a batch/lot of 184 34520, a best-before date code of 01/DE/22 and a UPC of 7 70338 10055 9

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Please note: this packaging may differ slightly from the recalled product.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Al-Rabih branded Halva (Halawa) Sesame Paste products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Ontario and Quebec although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Phoenicia Group has recalled certain batch/lots of Al-Rabih branded Halva (Halawa) Sesame Paste from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Halva products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Al-Rabih branded Halva (Halawa) Sesame Paste, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
