Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Zilzie Wines Pty Ltd., a Mildura, Victoria establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Meraki Shiraz 2020 Vintage Wine from the Australian marketplace due to suspected glass fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Shiraz Wine products are subject to this recall:

  • Meraki Shiraz Wine – 2020 Vintage, packaged in 750 mL glass bottles with a batch/lot code of L20259 and an APN/barcode number of 934489001791 (for an individual bottle) and 19344893001798 (for the case)

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Meraki Shiraz Wine products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in Liquor Stax outlets in the Australian states of New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia although it is always possible these alcoholic products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the ACCC, Zilzie Wines has recalled certain batch/lots of Meraki Shiraz Wine 2020 Vintage from the Australian marketplace due to suspected glass fragment contamination. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Shiraz Wine identified above.

In general, if glass, plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Meraki Shiraz Wine products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and/or GI tract laceration damage.
