US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Freshpet Inc., a Secaucus, New Jersey establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Freshpet branded Select Small Dog Bite Size Beef & Egg Recipe Dog Food from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Dog Food products are subject to this recall:

  • Freshpet branded Select Small Dog Bite Size Beef & Egg Recipe Dog Food, packaged in one (1) pound bags with batch/lot designator of 1421FBP0101, a best-before date of 10/30/2021 L2 and a UPC of 627975012939

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Dog Food products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Dog Food products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in Publix Super Markets in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina; and at some Target Stores locations in Arizona and Southern California although it is always possible these pet food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Freshpet has recalled one batch/lot of Freshpet branded Select Small Dog Bite Size Beef & Egg Recipe Dog Food from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should not serve the recalled Dog Food products identified above. Freshpet had itself designated this single batch/lot for destruction at its facility, but reports the dog food was inadvertently shipped to retailers in limited geographic markets between June 7 to June 10, 2021.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Pet Foods, please do not feed them to your pet(s). Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. Wash down all prep surfaces, serving implements and serving bowls with a bleach/water mixture; rinse well with lots of hot soapy water.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
