US NHTSA Recalls: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC Vehicles

Among the forty-five (45) recalls the NHTSA announced this June, comes news of the following:

Logo - General Motors LLCGeneral Motors LLC (“GM”), a Detroit, Michigan establishment, has recalled an estimated 285,622 model year 2021 Buick Envision, Cadillac CT4, Cadillac CT5, Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Corvette, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Electrical System, Air Bags – Air Bag Light may not indicate malfunction

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V421000 reports the Communications Gateway Module Incorrectly processes a loss of communication with the Sensing Diagnostic Module (“SDM”), causing the air bag malfunction indicator light to inconsistently illuminate.

According to the NHTSA, the Air Bag Malfunction Indicator Light may fail to warn the driver of a problem with the Air Bag, increasing the risk of serious injury and/or life-changing results in the event of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event.

Logo - Buick==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Authorized General Motors Dealers will update the software in the Communications Gateway Module, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 19, 2021.
