US FlagCanada FlagUS/Washington & Canada/Ottawa: BRP US Inc., a Sturtevant, Wisconsin establishment, and Bombardier Recreational Products Inc., a St. Bruno, Quebec establishment recalls an estimated 5,400 Ski-Doo Backcountry, Expedition, MXZ, Renegade, Skandic and Tundra Snowmobiles (approximately 2,400 in the US and approximately 3,000 in Canada) from the American and Canadian marketplaces due to overheating and consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage.

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain model year 2021 and 2022 Ski-Doo branded Snowmobiles equipped with a 600 EFI engine.

  • Ski-Doo Backcountry, Expedition, MXZ, Renegade, Skandic and Tundra Snowmobiles, sold in a variety of colors with the brand, “Ski-Doo” and the individual model name are printed on the side panels of the vehicles. The vehicle identification number (“VIN”) can be found printed on the decal located on the right-hand side of tunnel. The following models are included in the recall:
    • Ski-Doo branded Backcountry Snowmobiles sold with a model year of 2021
    • Ski-Doo branded Expedition Snowmobiles sold with a model year of 2021
    • Ski-Doo branded MXZ Snowmobiles sold with a model year of 2021
    • Ski-Doo branded Renegade Snowmobiles sold with model years of 2021 and 2022
    • Ski-Doo branded Skandic Snowmobiles sold with a model year of 2021 and 2022
    • Ski-Doo branded Tundra Snowmobiles sold with a model year of 2021 2022

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the recalled Snowmobile’s Muffler can overheat and cause the Upper Right-Hand Vent Grill to melt and drip plastic on the vehicle’s Exhaust, posing consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage. BRP has received ten (10) reports of overheating Mufflers, including three incidents that resulted in fires. At press time, no injuries had been reported.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ski-Doo Backcountry, Expedition, MXZ, Renegade, Skandic and/or Tundra Snowmobiles, please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact a Ski-Doo dealer for a free repair. BRP is contacting all known (i.e., registered) purchasers directly.

Please note: this is a joint recall from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) and Transport Canada (“TC”).
