Canada/Ottawa: Château Manis Électroniques Inc. (“CMEI”), a Dorval, Quebec establishment, recalls an estimated 9,464 Chateau branded CM BQ-4 Multi-flex BBQ Lighters from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected failure to meet Canadian Lighters regulations and consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage.

Additional information:
Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following BBQ Lighters are subject to this recall:

  • Chateau branded CM BQ-4 Multi-flex BBQ Lighters, marketed, sold and delivered with a flexible tube extending from the body of the Lighter, a bright neon coloured handle (available in yellow, green, blue or pink) and a UPC of 7 74471 03858 8. The Lighters were known to have been sold in Canada on dates ranging from April 4th, 2019 to May 25th, 2021.

==> No manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These BBQ Lighters were thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces although it is always possible these home products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to Health Canada, its sampling and evaluation program has determined the recalled Lighters do not meet the Canada’s Lighters Regulations and may pose a fire or burn hazard. Specifically, the Lighters:

  • May exceed the allowable flame height during ignition;
  • May exhibit an abnormal, sudden increase in flame height;
  • May continue to burn after the trigger mechanism has been released;
  • May not have a child resistant mechanism

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Multi-flex BBQ Lighters, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
