Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Metcash Trading Ltd., a Macquarie Park, New South Wales, establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Community Co branded Cookies & Cream Ice Cream from the Australian marketplace due to suspected rubber fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Ice Cream products are subject to this recall:

  • Community Co branded Cookies & Cream Ice Cream, sold in 1L tubs with a best-before date code of 09 MARCH 2023 and a barcode/APN of 9310246049758

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Ice Cream products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Australian states of Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the ACCC, Metcash Trading has recalled certain batch/lots of Community Co Cookies & Cream branded Ice Cream from the Australian marketplace due to suspected rubber fragment contamination. As a direct result of this suspected defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Ice Cream identified above.

In general, if glass, plastic, rubber or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Community Co Cookies & Cream Ice Cream products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction.
