Among the ninety-seven (97) recalls the NHTSA announced this past month, comes news of the following:

Logo - Daimler Trucks North America LLCDaimler Trucks North America LLC (“DTNA”), a Portland, Oregon establishment and a subsidiary of Daimler AG of Stuttgart, Germany, has recalled an estimated 8,482 model year 2021-2022 Freightliner 114SD, 122SD, Business Class M2, Cascadia, 108SD, Western Star 4900, 4700, 5700, Custom Chass RV Chassis, Custom Chass S2 Chassis, Custom Chass XC Chassis, Custom Chass XB Chassis, and Custom Chass MT Chassis Trucks marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Steering – Loose Tie Rod Clamps

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V369000 reports the Tie Rod Clamps may be loose, which could result in loose Tie Rod Ends that could break or detach.

Logo - FreightlinerAccording to the NHTSA, detached or broken Tie Rod Ends can result in steering loss, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Authorized Daimler Trucks North America dealers will replace the Tie Rod Clamp Bolts and Nuts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 17, 2021. Owners may contact DTNA Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-547-0712 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. DTNA’s designation for this recall is FL-888.
