Legacy Food Beef Jerky Recall [US]

US FlagUS/Washington: Legacy Food Company, Inc., a Rancho Cucamonga, California establishment, recalls an estimated 67,895 pounds of Beef Jerky from the American marketplace due to undeclared Sesame Oil, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Beef Jerky products were produced on various dates from July 20, 2020 through May 14, 2021 and are subject to this recall:

  • N4 Vua Kho Bo branded Curry Beef Jerky, packaged in ten (10)-pound packages
  • N8 Vua Kho Bo branded Flank Steak Beef Jerky – Fish Sauce, packaged in ten (10)-pound packages
  • N9 Vua Kho Bo branded House Special Beef Jerky – Fish Sauce, packaged in ten (10)-pound packages
  • Vua Kho Bo branded Hot Beef Jerky, packaged in ten (10)-pound packages
  • Hot Peppered Beef Jerky, packaged in ten (10)-pound packages
  • Formosa branded Hot Peppered Beef Jerky, packaged in sixteen (16)-ounce (one pound) packages

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Beef Jerky can be found on the Web site above.

These Beef Jerky products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US state of California although it is always possible these Beef Jerky products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the USDA, the Beef Jerky products packaged in ten (10)-pound containers and subject to recall bear an Establishment Number of “Est. 8256” while the sixteen (16)-ounce Jerky products listed above bear Establishment Number “EST 2446” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items are known to have been sold online and shipped to retail stores in California.

The products packaged in ten (10)-pound containers were sold in bulk packaging and were removed from their original packaging and repackaged and relabeled for online sales. Retail stores removed the products from their original packaging and display them in bins for sale.

The problem was discovered during routine FSIS label verification activities when it was determined that the labels did not accurately list all sub-ingredients.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Beef Jerky products and could be allergic to their Sesame Oil ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them. Instead, return the product to the distributor or wholesaler where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.
