Goal Zero EC8 Power Cable Recall [Canada]

Canada/Ottawa: Microcel Corporation, a Newmarket, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 165 Goal Zero EC8 Power Cables from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected component overheating and consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Cable products are subject to this recall:

  • Goal Zero EC8 Power Cables, consumer-grade electronic cables marketed, sold and delivered in 12-foot (3.65 metre)lengths:
    • Goal Zero 12 foot EC8 Extension Cable, with a model number of 98201 and a UPC of 847974006474
    • Goal Zero Male EC8 to Ring Cable, with a model number of 98202 and a UPC of 847974006481

The EC8 Power Cables were sold with the Yeti Tank and the Yeti Car Charge Kit. The Cables were used to connect Yeti Power Stations to either a Yeti Tank or a vehicle battery. The Cables were also sold in Yeti Expansion Kits.

  • The recalled cables were also included in the following Yeti-related Kits but have not themselves been recalled:
    • Car Charge Kit, sold with a model number of 44200, a product number 1-98201 and a UPC of 847974007419. This product came with one (1) EC8 Power Cable.
    • Yeti Tank, sold with a model number of 23100, a product number 1-98202 and a UPC of 847974006399. This product came with one (1) EC8 Power Cable.
    • 2.4 Kwh Yeti Expansion Kit, sold with a model number of 44100, a product number 2-98202 and a UPC of 847974007389. This product came with two (2) EC8 Power Cable.
    • 4.8 Kwh Yeti Expansion Kit, sold with a model number of 44150, a product number 4-98202 and a UPC of 847974007396. This product came with four (4) EC8 Power Cable.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, NDCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Power Cables are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to Health Canada, the pins inside the Connector on the Power Cables can deform and overheat, posing a fire hazard and further serious risks to the safety of people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Power Cables, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
