Canada/Ottawa: Maison Condelle, a Montréal, Quebec establishment, recalls an estimated 3,660 À la Cuisine branded Electric Glass Kettles from the Canadian marketplace due to overheating and melting with consequential risks of burns, scalds, smoke inhalation and/or respiratory failure, cardiac system collapse and/or property damage.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Electric Glass Kettles are subject to this recall:

  • À la Cuisine branded Electric Glass Kettles, consumer-grade, two-litre steam kettles designed to heat water for drinking, and marketed, sold and delivered with a product number of KA2070240200008201, a purchase order (“PO”) number of 53970 and a UPC of 072071973170.

==> No manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Electric Glass Kettles were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in Hart Stores Inc. although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information. The company reports that the recalled Kettles were sold from May 2020 to January 2021.

According to Health Canada, when the Kettle is plugged in, the base of the Kettle can overheat and the plastic on the Electric Cord can melt. If this defect occurs, it poses fire and burn hazards to people who utilize the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use.

As at May 7, 2021, the company had received two (2) reports of smoke coming from the Kettle’s handle. No injuries have been reported.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled À la Cuisine branded Electric Glass Kettles, please do not use them. Instead, kindly follow these instructions:

  • With proof of purchase, consumers can return the recalled Kettle to the store and you will be refunded with the same payment method you used at the time of purchase.
  • Without proof of purchase, consumers can return the recalled Kettle to the store. You have the option of receiving a refund on a gift card or exchanging the defective Kettle for a new one.
