Among the seventy-four (74) recalls the NHTSA has announced this month, comes news of the following:

Logo - Motor Coach Industries ("MCI")Motor Coach Industries (“MCI”), a Des Plaines, Illinois establishment and a subsidiary of New Flyer (part of the NFI Group) of Winnipeg, Manitoba has recalled an estimated 1,853 model year 2017-2018 MCI D4000, 2017-2019 MCI D4005 Motor Coaches, MCI D4000ISTV Motor Coaches, MCI D4505 Motor Coaches, 2017-2020 MCI D4500 Motor Coaches, MCI J4500 Motor Coaches, 2018-2020 MCI D45CRTLE Motor Coaches and 2018-2021 MCI J3500 Motor Coaches marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Fuel System, Diesel – High Pressure Fuel Rail Assembly may leak fuel

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V364000 reports the Sealing Washer may not seat correctly in the Pilot Bore Holes, allowing the High Pressure Fuel Rail Assembly to leak.

According to the NHTSA, a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Dealers will inspect the Rail Threads, and replace the rail as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 31, 2021. MCI’s designation for this recall is R21-009.
