Among the forty-seven (47) recalls the European Union announced in its second report of May 2021, the following recall notification was made:

Motus branded Deskorolka Elektryczna Hoverboards

Motus branded Deskorolka Elektryczna Hoverboards sold with a model designation of Take it XD 6.5 and an EAN/barcode of 5 901821 992589. This recall alert was submitted by Hungary to the EU Safety Gateway.

These Motus branded Deskorolka Elektryczna Hoverboards are marketed, sold and delivered as black and yellow colored self-balancing scooters for use as personal transport device for one person. The motorized devices measure approximately 605 mm by 194 mm by 181 mm and were sold with a lithium ion battery rated at 36 Volts 4 Ah as well as integrated LED lighting and a battery charger.

No EANs/barcodes, UPCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, model numbers, manufacturing date codes, batch/lot designations, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

The type of hazards presented in these recalled Motus branded Deskorolka Elektryczna Hoverboards include the reported finding that the product features poor quality due to their internal wiring. Specifically, the power cords are exposed to movement between the two drive motors are are routed through a steel pipe with unfinished, jagged edges at both ends.

As a result of these reported defects, during the life of the Hoverboard, the insulation of the internal power cables could be damaged by the sharp pipe edges to such that in the battery may short-circuit, overheat and/or explode when utilizing the product in a reasonable manner expected with its intended design and anticipated use. As a result, the rider might lose control of the device and fall off the Hoverboard, suffering injuries including lacerations, bone fractures and/or concussion.

These Hoverboards, therefore, do not comply with the relevant European standards EN 60335 and EN 62133.

Due to these reported defects, a recall of these Motus branded Deskorolka Elektryczna Hoverboards and a withdrawal of the products from the European marketplace has been ordered.
