Lynch Foods Limited, a North York, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Earl’s Fig Spread, Recipe Fig Spread, Woolwich Fig Spread and Woolwich branded Fig Spread with Balsamic Vinegar products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Stone fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Spread products are subject to this recall:

  • Earl’s branded Fig Spread, a processed fruit product marketed, sold and delivered in 5 kilogram bulk containers with a batch/lot designation of 010160, 010420, 011600, 011820 or 012110 and a UPC of 0 006280 234131 6
  • Recipe branded Fig Spread, a processed fruit product marketed, sold and delivered in 5 kilogram bulk containers with a batch/lot designation of 010130, 010550 or 012370 and a UPC of 1 006280 238381 8
  • Woolwich branded Fig Spread, a processed fruit product marketed, sold and delivered in 23 kilogram bulk containers with a batch/lot designation of 010500, 020500, 030500, 012040, 022040, 012790, 022790, 032790, 013210, 023210 or 033210 and an unlisted UPC
  • Woolwich branded Fig Spread with Balsamic Vinegar, a processed fruit product marketed, sold and delivered in 23 kilogram bulk containers with a batch/lot designation of 010940, 012060 or 012980 and an unlisted UPC

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Spreads were known to be marketed, sold and distributed in the Canadian provinces and Territories of Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Yukon although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, W.T. Lynch Foods has recalled certain batch/lots of Earl’s Fig Spread, Recipe Fig Spread, Woolwich Fig Spread and Woolwich Fig Spread with Balsamic Vinegar products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Stone fragment contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Fig Spread identified above.

In general, if stone fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fig Spreads, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
