US NHTSA Recalls: Hino NE, NJ, NV, NH, NV & TH Trucks

Among the one hundred-and-fifteen (115) recalls the NHTSA announced this past month, came news of the following:

Logo - Hino Motors Manufacturing USA, Inc.Hino Motors Manufacturing USA, Inc. (“Hino”), the commercial truck division of Toyota Motors Corp. and a Novi, Michigan establishment, has recalled an estimated 4,848 model year 2020 NE8J, NJ8J, NV8J, NH1A, NV1A and TH1A Trucks marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Visibility – Mirror Glass may detach from Carrier Plate

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V146000 reports the Mirror Glass in the recalled Hino Trucks may not be bonded properly to the Carrier Plate, allowing it to detach.

According to the NHTSA, detached Mirror Glass can reduce driver visibility and/or become a road hazard to other drivers. Either of these scenarios can increase the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Hino will notify registered owners, and dealers will inspect the Mirror production date, and replace the Mirror as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 7, 2021. Owners may contact Hino Customer Service at +1-248-699-9390 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. Hino’s designation for this recall is M0340. Please note: this recall supersedes previous NHTSA recall number 19V-564.
