According to the USDA, the Ground Turkey products subject to this public health warning bear establishment number “EST. P-244” inside the USDA mark of inspection and are thought to be shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The USDA did not order a recall of these Ground Turkey products because it is believed that they are no longer available for consumers to purchase at retail. The authority warns that some Ground Turkey products may be stored in chillers or frozen and in freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Retail locations that may receive returned product from consumers should destroy this product immediately.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service and several public health partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”), state public health and regulatory officials are investigating a multi-state outbreak of 28 Salmonella Hadar illnesses in twelve (12) US states with onset dates ranging from December 28, 2020 through March 4, 2021.

The subsequent traceback investigation for one (1) case patient identified the patient consumed Ground Turkey produced by Plainville Brands, LLC. An intact, unopened package of Plainville Brands’ Ground Turkey collected from this case-patient’s home tested positive for Salmonella Hadar and was closely related genetically to the sample from the patient. Evidence collected to date does not link all illnesses to this establishment. Based on the continuing investigation, additional product from other establishments may be involved. FSIS continues to work with CDC as well as state and local public health partners on this investigation and will provide updated information as it becomes available.

As a direct result of this suspected Salmonella Hadar contamination, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Ground Turkey products identified above.

==> For information about Salmonellosis (Salmonella poisoning), please consult the “Illnesses” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Ground Turkey products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisoning such as Salmonellosis.
