Among the one hundred-and-fifteen (115) recalls the NHTSA announced this past month, came news of the following:

Logo - Mazda North American OperationMazda North American Operation (“Mazda”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Mazda Motor Corporation of Hiroshima, Japan, has recalled an estimated 5,847 model year 2007-2009 Mazda branded B-Series Pickup Trucks marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Air Bags – Driver’s Air Bag Inflator may explode

NHTSA Safety Notification 1V162000 reports the Driver’s Side Air Bag Inflator may explode due to Propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

According to the NHTSA, an Inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Mazda will notify registered owners, and dealers will replace the Driver-Side Air Bag Inflator with an alternate one, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 9, 2021. Owners may contact Mazda Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-222-5500, option 4, during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Mazda’s designation for this recall is 4821C.
