Canada/Ottawa: Tun Hau Enterprises (Canada) Ltd., a Vancouver, British Columbia establishment and subsidiary of Tun Hau Enterprises of Kennedy Town, Hong Kong, recalls certain batch/lots of Double Happiness branded Dried Almond products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected natural toxin Amygdalin contamination and consequential risks of acute Cyanide poisoning with headache, dizziness, fast heart rate, shortness of breath, vomiting, seizures, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, loss of consciousness, cardiac arrest as well as long-term neurological problems, all serious health hazards requiring immediate medical intervention.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Dried Almond products are subject to this recall:

  • Double Happiness branded Dried Almond, 200 gram package with a best-before date of 30/12/2020 and a UPC of 6 264300 001608

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Dried Almond products may have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces and territories although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Tun Hau Enterprises (Canada) Ltd. has recalled certain batch/lots of Double Happiness branded Dried Almond products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected natural toxin Amygdalin contamination and consequential risks of acute Cyanide poisoning. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Raw Bitter Apricot Kernels identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Double Happiness branded Dried Almond, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat acute Cyanide poisoning.
