Among the one hundred-and-fifteen (115) recalls the NHTSA announced this past month, came news of the following:

Cougar Motor LED Headlight Bulb Recall [US]

Guangzhou Zhilan E-Commerce Co., Ltd (“Guangzhou”), a Baiyun, Guangzhou establishment, has recalled an estimated 21E021000 model year Cougar Motor CCD19-6215, CCD19-6322, CCD19-6888, CCD19-6254, CCD19-6398, CCD19-6126, CCD19-6777, and CCD19-6881 headlight LED bulbs sizes 9004, 9005, 9006, 9007 and 9012 sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Exterior Lighting – Bulb exceeds luminous lux standard in apparent contravention of US FMVSS 108

NHTSA Safety Notification 21E021000 reports as such, these Bulbs fail to comply with the requirements of the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (“FMVSS”) number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”.

According to the NHTSA, excessive glare or brightness can reduce other driver’s vision, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Guangzhou will notify registered owners, and dealers will replace the LED Bulb(s) with Halogen Bulb(s), free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Guangzhou Customer Service toll-free at 1-916-400-1487. No manufacturer’s designation was listed for this recall at press time.
