Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Chocolate Malt Balls are subject to this recall:

  • Dave’s Supermarket Chocolate Malt Balls, sold in 4.5 oz clam pack containers
  • b.a. Sweetie Candy Company Chocolate Malted Milk Balls Bulk, sold in three (3) pound bulk bags

==> No barcodes, UPCs, NDCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Chocolate Malt Balls were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the US state of Ohio in the following retail locations:

  • Sweetie Candy Company retail store
  • Dave’s Market Grocery Stores in Cleveland, Akron, Garfield Heights, Euclid, Cleveland Heights and Richmond Heights
  • Groovy Candies, Cleveland
  • L&E Sugarbuzz, Amhurst

Please note: it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, b.a. Sweetie Candy has recalled certain batch/lots of Chocolate Malt Balls and Chocolate Malted Milk Balls from the American marketplace due to undeclared Wheat. The recall was initiated after a routine inspection conducted by the Ohio Department of Agriculture reportedly found undeclared Wheat allergen in both Chocolate Malt Ball products.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Chocolate Malt Balls and could be allergic to their Wheat ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
