Canada/Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”), an Ottawa, Ontario-based statutory regulatory and food safety authority, warns against the consumption certain batch/lots of Armeniacal Apricot Kernels from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected natural toxin Amygdalin contamination and consequential risks of acute Cyanide poisoning with headache, dizziness, fast heart rate, shortness of breath, vomiting, seizures, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, loss of consciousness, cardiac arrest as well as long-term neurological problems, all serious health hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Apricot Kernels are subject to this recall:

  • Armeniacal Apricot Kernels products, sold from January 21, 2020 to April 30, 2020 with a product code of 590080 in variable sizes at the following locations:
    • Nutri Herbs: Unit 1065 – 1163 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, British Columbia
    • Nice Herbs: Unit 101M – 15277 100 Avenue, Surrey, British Columbia
  • Armeniacal Apricot Kernels products, sold from January 21, 2020 to April 30, 2020 with a product code of 590090 in variable sizes at the following locations:
    • Nutri Herbs: Unit 1065 – 1163 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam, British Columbia
    • Nice Herbs: Unit 101M – 15277 100 Ave., Surrey, British Columbia

==> No manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Armeniacal Apricot Kernels are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces and territories although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, it is warning against the consumption of certain batch/lots of Armeniacal Apricot Kernels within the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Amygdalin contamination, a natural toxin, with consequential risks of acute Cyanide poisoning. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Apricot Kernels identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Armeniacal Apricot Kernels, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat acute Cyanide poisoning.
