US FlagUS/Washington: BC Food LA, LLC., a South El Monte, California establishment, doing business as B & C Food Co., recalls an estimated 1,643 pounds of Lee’s Da Zhuang branded Chinese style Hot Pot Base products containing Beef Tallow that were imported from People’s Republic of China (“PRC”), an ineligible country for Beef importation, and distributed in the United States without the benefit of US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) import re-inspection, a serious health and safety hazard.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Beef Tallow products were imported on or around June 24, 2020 and are subject to this recall:

  • Lee’s 52° Da Zhuang Hot Pot Base 10.5-ounces (300 gram) plastic vacuum wrapped packages with a best-before date of 10/12/2021
  • Lee’s 45° Da Zhuang Hot Pot Base 10.5-ounces (300 gram) plastic vacuum wrapped packages with a best-before date of 10/12/2021
  • Lee’s 36° Da Zhuang Hot Pot Base 10.5-ounces (300 gram) plastic vacuum wrapped packages with a best-before date of 10/12/2021

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail and wholesale presentation. Additional images of the recalled Chinese style Hot Pot Base products containing Beef Tallow can be found on the Web site above.

These Chinese style Hot Pot Base products containing Beef Tallow products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in retail locations and restaurants in California, Nevada and Oklahoma although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the USDA, the products subject to recall do not bear a US Federal mark of inspection.

This recall was initiated after the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) received an anonymous report of ineligible Beef Tallow products imported from China. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Chinese style Hot Pot Base products containing Beef Tallow identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Chinese style Hot Pot Base products containing Beef Tallow, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat bacterial poisoning.
