BlueSkyGreenEarth AntiBioBotanical & Ly)mex [Australia]

Australia/Canberra: BlueSkyGreenEarth Herbs Pty Ltd., an Alexandria, New South Wales establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of AntiBioBotanical and Ly)mex Herb medications from the Australian marketplace due to suspected Artemisia ingredients and consequential risks of health damage to women of childbearing age and to the health and/or safety of their developing fetus, including reproductive damage, all serious health hazards.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following drug products are subject to this recall:

• BlueSkyGreenEarth Herbs AntiBioBotanical, sold with batch/lot designations of L191101 or L180901 with an ARTG of 166291
• BlueSkyGreenEarth Herbs Ly)mex, sold with a batch/lot designation of 19098003 with an ARTG of 291201

The recalled drugs consist of therapeutic herbs, typically taken as tea infusions or as tablets, traditionally used for intestinal threadworms, indigestion and/or loss of appetite.

==> No barcodes, APNs, EANs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These drugs were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Australian states of New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia although it is always possible these drug products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

Artemisia is a large, diverse grouping of plants ranging between 200 and 400 species, depending on the precise classification criteria, belonging to the daisy family Asteraceae. Common names for various species in the genus include Mugwort, Wormwood and Sagebrush.

According to the ACCC, Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration (“TGA”) has undertaken a review of the safety of the ingredient Artemisia, a key component in the recalled AntiBioBotanical and Ly)mex Herb medications. The TGA has formed the view that the safety of listed medicines containing Artemisia species may pose a risk when used by women who are pregnant, or likely to become pregnant. Specifically, medicines that contain Artemisia may cause illness if taken by pregnant women or women who intend to become pregnant and may cause injury to their unborn children.

As a consequence of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled AntiBioBotanical and Ly)mex Herb medications identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm drug poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any drug, return it to your retailer for refund.

Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect the drinking water supply and the ecosystem.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat Artemisia consumption.
