US FlagUS/Silver Spring: PNHC, LLC, doing business as Heal the World, a Raleigh, North Carolina establishment, recalls all current batch/lots of Heal the World Hand Sanitizer products sold in 9.6 fluid ounce bottles from the American marketplace due to reported resemblance to water bottles and consequential risks of poisoning, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage, blindness and/or death, all serious health and safety hazards requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Hand Sanitizer products are subject to this recall:

  • Heal the World Hand Sanitizer, sold in 9.6 fluid ounce bottles with a NDC of 73333-285-01 and a batch/lot of SAA21, SAA24, SAA27, SAA22, SAA23, SAA29, SAA26, SAA28, SAA25, SAA32, SAA55, SAA56, SAA44 or SAA60

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, these Hand Sanitizer products are intended to be applied topically to help reduce bacteria on the skin that could cause diseases when soap and water are not available. In this specific notification, the recall applies to Heal the World branded Hand Sanitizer products sold only in 9.6 fluid ounce bottles The product can be identified by the bottle’s label pictured above. The recalled Hand Sanitizers are reported to have been distributed to selected retailers in the United States.

ingesting Hand Sanitizer, products manufactured and intended solely for topical use, could potentially result in Alcohol Toxicity. Symptoms of Alcohol Toxicity may range from lack of coordination, slowed or slurred speech, drowsiness to coma, which can be fatal.

Furthermore, ingesting Alcohol can affect the brain and cause impaired driving or operation of heavy machinery, leading to increased chances of motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential risks of serious injury and/or life-changing results.

In addition, Alcohol can also interact with numerous drugs which may result in serious adverse effects with life-threatening results. Finally, ingesting Alcohol by people with Alcohol Addiction may interfere with maintaining abstinence and/or recovery.

Consumption of Methanol/Methyl Alcohol can result in nausea, vomiting, headache, blurred vision, permanent blindness, seizures, coma, permanent damage to the nervous system or death. Although all persons using these products on their hands are at risk, young children who accidentally ingest these products and adolescents and adults who drink these products as if they were consuming Ethanol (i.e., drinking alcohol) as a substitute, are most at risk for Methanol poisoning.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any product, return it to your retailer for refund, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect product.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Heal the World branded Hand Sanitizer products, please do use them to sanitize your hands, face or other body parts with them. Instead, return the Hand Sanitizer products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect the drinking water supply and the ecosystem. Do not dispose of this product through your household sewer system. Instead, consult with your local pharmacist or municipal waste authority for disposal instructions.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat Methanol poisoning.
