Canada/Ottawa: Advantage Health Matters Inc., a Toronto, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Organic Traditions branded Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected natural toxin Amygdalin contamination and consequential risks of acute Cyanide poisoning with headache, dizziness, fast heart rate, shortness of breath, vomiting, seizures, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, loss of consciousness, cardiac arrest as well as long-term neurological problems, all serious health hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Apricot Kernels are subject to this recall:

  • Advantage Health Matters Organic Traditions Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels, sold in 227 gram (one-half pound) bags, with a batch/lot of AHM900190228D, an expiry date code of EXP: 05/2020 and a UPC of 6 27733 00900 3
  • Advantage Health Matters Organic Traditions Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels, sold in 227 gram (one-half pound) bags, with a batch/lot of AHM900190321D, an expiry date code of EXP: 05/2020 and a UPC of L200421135
  • Advantage Health Matters Organic Traditions Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels, sold in 227 gram (one-half pound) bags, with a batch/lot of AHM900190417D, an expiry date code of EXP: 05/2020 and a UPC of 6 27733 00900 3
  • Advantage Health Matters Organic Traditions Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels, sold in 227 gram (one-half pound) bags, with a batch/lot of L200421135, an expiry date code of EXP: 12/2021 and a UPC of 6 27733 00900 3

==> No manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels are thought to have been marketed, distributed and sold in all Canadian provinces and territories although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution outside the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Advantage Health Matters has recalled certain batch/lots of Organic Traditions branded Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected natural toxin Amygdalin contamination and consequential risks of acute Cyanide poisoning. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Organic Traditions branded Dried Bitter Apricot Kernels, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
