Among the eighty-four (84) recalls the NHTSA announced last month, came news of the following:

Logo - Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (“Volkswagen”), a Herndon, Virginia establishment and subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group of Wolfsburg, Germany, has recalled an estimated 10,303 model year 2021 Atlas and 2020-2021 Atlas Cross Sport Utility Vehicles sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Steering – Loss of steering due To Knuckle Failure

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V079000 reports the Front Steering Knuckle may fracture in the area of the Strut Mounting.

According to the NHTSA, a fractured Steering Knuckle can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Volkswagen will notify registered owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace one or both Steering Knuckles, free of charge. The recall began February 16, 2021. Owners may contact Volkswagen Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-893-5298 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) for more information. Volkswagen’s designation for this recall is 40Q7.
