Among the eighty-four (84) recalls the NHTSA announced last month, came news of the following:

Logo - Mazda North American OperationsMazda North American Operations (“Mazda”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Mazda Motor Corporation of Hiroshima, Japan, has recalled an estimated 13,857 model year 2020-2021 Mazda CX-30 SUVs marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Structure – Power Liftgate may lower unexpectedly

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V086000 reports when fully opened, the Power Liftgate may partially lower unexpectedly when the vehicle is parked facing uphill on a slope.

According to the NHTSA, if the Power Liftgate unexpectedly lowers while a person is accessing the rear storage area of the vehicle, it can increase their risk of head and/or limb injury and/or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Coronavirus Tips___________________________________________________________

Mazda will notify registered owners, and dealers will update the Power Liftgate Control Module Software and inspect the serial number of the Power Liftgate Drive Unit, replacing it if necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 19, 2021.

Owners may contact Mazda Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-222-5500, option 4 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”). Mazda’s designation for this recall is 4621B.
