US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Kareem Mart, a Garden City, Michigan establishment, recalls various sizes of Tahina Sesame Paste Spreads from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risks of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Tahina Sesame Paste products are subject to this recall:

  • Tahina Sesame Paste Spread, sold in one (1) pound and two (2) pound in plastic bottles as well as ten (10) kilogram metal cans with an expiration date of 07-01-2022

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Tahina Sesame Paste products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Tahina Sesame Paste Spreads were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in Mediterranean food stores in Michigan and Chicago, Illinois, between April 2020 to October 2020 although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Kareem Mart has recalled one (1) batch/lot of Tahina Sesame Paste Spread from the American marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Tahina identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Tahina Sesame Paste Spread products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Tahina to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. Alternatively, you can return your food products to Kareem Mart at 32816 Manor Park Garden City MI 48135 or by e mail at recalls@kareemmart.com with the return receipt and product purchase date for a full refund.
