Among the thirty-seven (37) recalls the NHTSA has announced in January 2021, comes news of the following:

Logo - Ford Motor CompanyFord Motor Company (“Ford”), a Dearborn, Michigan establishment, has recalled an estimated 147 model year 2020-2021 Ford Edge, 2020 Lincoln Nautilus and Ford Escape and 2021 Lincoln Corsair and Ford Bronco Vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Power Train – Inadequate lubrication in Rear Drive Unit

NHTSA Safety Notification 21V011000 reports an inadequate amount of lubricant in the Rear Drive Unit may cause seizure of the Rear Drive Axle.

Logo - LincolnAccording to the NHTSA, in the Rear Drive Unit seizes, there may be a loss of drive and/or a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Ford will notify registered owners, and dealers will check the Rear Drive Unit Lubricant level. Axles found to have Lubricant at the minimum level will be filled to the full level. Axles found to be below the minimum Lubricant fill level will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 1, 2021.
