The UK Food Standards Agency (“FSA”) reports the following Chilled and Frozen Seafood products including Cockles, Mussels, Prawns and Squid are subject to recall:

  • ASDA Cooked Mussels (Chilled), sold in 150 gram packages; affected batch/lots: 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 January 2021
  • ASDA Seafood Selection (Mussels, Seafood Bites and King Prawns) (Chilled), sold in 240 gram packages; affected batch/lots: 22, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 January 2021
  • Co-op Cooked Mussels (Chilled), sold in 140 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all current date codes
  • Co-op Cooked Seafood Selection (Frozen), sold in 300 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all current date codes
  • by Sainsbury’s Cockles (Chilled), sold in 90 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all current date codes
  • by Sainsbury’s Cooked Cockles (Frozen), sold in 200 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all current date codes
  • by Sainsbury’s Cooked Mussels (Frozen), sold in 300 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all current date codes
  • by Sainsbury’s Mussels (Chilled), sold in 150 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all current date codes
  • by Sainsbury’s Seafood Selection (Chilled), sold in 200 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all current date codes
  • by Sainsbury’s Seafood Selection (Frozen), sold in 300 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all current date codes
  • Waitrose & Partners Essential Cooked Seafood Selection, (Mussels, King Prawns and Squid) (Chilled), sold in 200 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all dates from 20 December 2020 to 20 January 2021
  • Waitrose & Partners Essential Frozen Seafood Selection, (King Prawns, Mussels and Squid Rings), sold in 250 gram packages; affected batch/lots: all dates up to and including end January 2022

==> No barcodes, EANs, UPCs, item numbers, most best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FSA, ASDA Stores Ltd, Co-Op Limited, Sainsbury’s Supermarkets and Waitrose & Partners have recalled certain batch/lots of Chilled and Frozen Seafood products including Cockles, Mussels, Prawns and Squid from the British marketplace due to suspected Salmonella contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Chilled and Frozen Seafood products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Chilled and Frozen Seafood products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Seafood products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Please note: while these Seafood products may be close to or past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased these products from January 1, 2021 to January 25, 2021, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-9-9, your closest hospital A&E or emergency centre equipped to properly treat bacterial poisonings such as Salmonellosis.
