US FlagUS/Washington: Scalpa Inc., a Phoenix, Arizona establishment, recalls an estimated 10,000 tubes of Scalpa Numb Maximum Strength Topical Anesthetic Cream from the American marketplace due to suspected failure to meet US child resistant closure requirements under the US Poison Prevention Packaging Act and consequential risks of child poisoning, ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves Scalpa Numb Maximum Strength Topical Anesthetic Cream marketed, sold and delivered in the United States, as follows:

  • Scalpa Numb Maximum Strength Topical Anesthetic Cream, sold in 10 gram black and white tubes with a white cap with brand, “SCALPANUMB” and the phrase, “Maximum Strength Topical Anesthetic Cream” printed on the label. The expiration date code of this medication is marked as “EXP 202307” on the crimped end of the tube. A batch/lot designation of 1000000101, Code: C1 and a UPC of 857076008689 can be found printed on the outside of the box.

==> No NDCs, DINs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, this recall was initiated because the product reportedly contains the drug Lidocaine, a substance that must be sold and stored in child resistant packaging as required by the US Poison Prevention Packaging Act (“PPPA”). The packaging of the recalled Scalpa Numb Maximum Strength Anesthetic Cream is reportedly not child resistant, posing a poisoning risk if the contents are swallowed by young children.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Scalpa Numb Maximum Strength Topical Anesthetic Cream products, please do not use them. Instead, kindly store the Anesthetic Cream in a safe location out of reach of children and contact Scalpa for a full refund or store credit. Scalpa is directly notifying all known purchasers about the recall.

Please note: Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect the drinking water supply and the ecosystem.
