US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Hiland Dairy, a Springfield, Missouri establishment, recalls an estimated 240,000 units of Hiland Dairy branded 1% Low Fat Chocolate Milk from the American marketplace due to suspected food-grade sanitizer contamination and consequential risks of severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Chocolate Milk products are subject to this recall:

  • Hiland Dairy 1% Low Fat Chocolate Milk, sold in half pint (236 mL) cardboard containers, sell-by date of January 27, 2021, a plant code of 4025 and a UPC of 72060-00156-3

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Chocolate Milk products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the institutional customers in the following areas: Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Metro Area, Western Oklahoma; Dallas, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; and Tyler, Texas although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Hiland Dairy initiated this recall after the company was notified of a potential issue that was subsequently confirmed after internal quality-control testing at the Norman, Oklahoma facility. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Milk products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Chocolate Milk products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the milk products to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
