Among the eighteen (18) recalls the NHTSA has announced in January 2021, comes news of the following:

Logo - Yamaha Motor Corporation, USAYamaha Motor Corporation, USA (“Yamaha”), a Cypress, California establishment and subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Company Limited of Iwata, Shizuoka, Japan, has recalled an estimated 2,285 model year 2016-2020 Yamaha FJR13A and FJR13AE Motorcycles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Power Train – Transmission Second Gear can break

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V813000 reports the Second Gear of the Transmission can crack and break under high speed loads.

According to the NHTSA, a broken Gear can cause the Transmission and Rear Wheel to lock causing a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Yamaha will notify registered owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, reprogram the Engine Control Unit (“ECU”) and replace the Main Axle and Drive Axle Assemblies, free of charge. The recall was expected to begin January 13, 2021. Owners may contact Yamaha Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-962-7926 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”) for more information. Yamaha’s designation for this recall is 990141.
