US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Weis Markets, a Sunbury, Pennsylvania establishment, recalls an estimated 10,869 tubs of Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream and an estimated 502 bulk containers Klein’s Vanilla Dairy Ice Cream from the American marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Ice Cream products are subject to this recall:

  • Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream, marketed and sold in 48 ounce tubs with a production date of 10/28/2020, a first-sale date of 10/29/2020, a sell-by date of 10/28/2021 and a UPC of 041497-01253
  • Klein’s Vanilla Dairy Ice Cream, marketed and sold in three (3) gallon bulk pails

Additionally, the following Ice Cream products are also affected by this recall:

  • Klein’s Cookies and Cream Dairy Bulk
  • Nelson’s Graham Slam Bulk

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Ice Cream products can be found on the Web site above.

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Ice Cream products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in 197 Weis Markets’ stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the FDA, Weis Markets has recalled an estimated 10,869 tubs of Weis Quality Cookies and Cream Ice Cream and an estimated 502 bulk containers Klein’s Vanilla Dairy Ice Cream from the American marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Ice Cream products identified above.

In general, if bone, glass, metal, plastic and/or rubber fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ice Cream products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Ice Cream to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction.
