Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: The Trustee for The Sabrands Australia Management Trust, a South Melbourne, Victoria establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Rosella branded Red Cocktail Onions from the Australian marketplace due to suspected glass fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health hazards.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Red Cocktail Onions are subject to this recall:

  • Rosella Red Cocktail Onions, sold in 150 gram glass bottles, a best-before date code of 05/11/2022 and an APN/EAN of 0000093660249

==> No item numbers, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Rosella branded Red Cocktail Onions were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in IGA stores within New South Wales, Woolworths stores within New South Wales & Queensland and Coles stores nationally although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the ACCC, The Trustee for The Sabrands Australia Management Trust has recalled certain batch/lots of Rosella branded Red Cocktail Onions from the Australian marketplace due to suspected glass fragment contamination. As a result of this reported defect, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Cocktail Onions products identified above.

In general, if glass or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Rosella branded Red Cocktail Onions, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 0-0-0, your closest hospital or emergency centre equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction.
