Among the sixty-six (66) recalls the NHTSA announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Kawasaki Motors Corp. USAKawasaki Motors Corp. USA (“Kawasaki”), a Santa Ana, California establishment and a subsidiary of Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Minato, Tokyo, Japan has recalled an estimated 1,770 model year 2021 Z400 ABS (ER400D), Ninja 400 (EX400H) and Ninja 400 ABS (EX400G) Motorcycles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Engine, Engine And Engine Cooling – Camshaft Chain Tensioner improperly heat-treated

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V774000 reports the strength of the Camshaft Chain Tensioner may be insufficient due to improper heat treatment, possibly causing it to be damaged.

According to the NHTSA, a damaged Camshaft Chain Tensioner can cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Kawasaki Motors Corp. will notify registered owners, and dealers will replace the Camshaft Chain Tensioner, free of charge. Please note: Owners are advised to not ride their Motorcycles until the repair has been completed. The recall is expected to begin December 21, 2021. Owners may contact Kawasaki Customer Service toll-free at 1-866-802-9381 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”). Kawasaki’s designation for this recall is MC20-13.
