Canada/Ottawa: Logo - Imperial FlavoursImperial Flavours Inc., a Mississauga, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Imperial Flavours branded Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and/or bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Chocolate Chip products are subject to this recall:

  • Imperial Flavours Chocolate Semi Sweet Chips, sold in 20 kilogram institutional containers with an approximate chip count of 10000 chips and batch/lot designations of 0126620, 0127220 or 0127520

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Imperial Flavours branded Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian province of Ontario although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Imperial Flavours has recalled certain batch/lots of Imperial Flavours Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination. As a result of this recall, you should neither serve nor consume the recalled Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips identified above.

In general, if metal or glass fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Imperial Flavours Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and/or bowel obstruction.
