US NHTSA Recalls: Nissan Sentra Vehicles

Among the forty-five (45) recalls the NHTSA announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Nissan North America, Inc.Nissan North America, Inc. (“Nissan”), a Franklin, Tennessee establishment and a wholly owned subsidiary of Nissan Motor Company of Yokohama, Japan has recalled an estimated 3,930 model year 2002-2006 Sentra vehicles whose Passenger Air Bags were previously inspected and may have been released without replacing the Takata Air Bag Inflators and marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Air Bags – Frontal Passenger Air Bag Inflators may explode

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V747000 reports in the event of a crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event, the Takata Frontal Passenger Air Bag Inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures and high temperature cycling. This explosion may cause facial lacerations, eye injury, concussion, bone fracture and/or other life-changing results.

According to the NHTSA, an Inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other vehicle occupants resulting in lacerations, concussion, eye damage, bone fracture and/or other serious injury with life-changing results including or death.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

Nissan will notify registered owners, and dealers will re-inspect the vehicle and, if necessary, replace the Air Bag Inflator, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 5, 2021. Owners may contact Nissan Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-867-7669 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Nissan’s designation for this recall is PM964.
