Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain Fiskars branded 16 Foot Chain Drive Extendable Pole Saws & Pruners, model numbers 9463, 9440 and 9441., as follows:

  • The recall Pole Saw/Pruners are marketed and sold as lawn and garden tools that extend from seven (7) feet to sixteen (16) feet and are used to cut high tree branches with either their Pruner (for smaller branches) or their 15-inch hooked Wood Saw Blade (for larger branches). The Pole Saw/Pruner’s Blade is secured to an oval-shaped fiberglass and aluminum telescoping pole set that locks into place through a double-locking system consisting of two orange c-clamps and a black and orange lock and pin mechanism in each of the upper and lower pole assemblies. They have an orange and black pole. The brand, “Fiskars” can be seen printed on the pole and the model number is printed on the UPC on the pole.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s design and retail presentation.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, best-before date codes, manufacturing date codes, production dates, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the telescoping poles of the Pole Saw/Pruner can separate, causing the poles to suddenly detach and fall with the Saw Blade and Pruner head dropping towards the operator. If this defect occurs, it poses laceration and amputation hazards to the operator and to those nearby when utilizing the Pole Saw/Pruners in a reasonable manner expected with their intended use.

At the time of this recall notification, Fiskars had received two (2) reports of the poles separating and falling. Two (2) laceration injuries requiring hospital treatment and skin sutures were reported in the United States. No incidents nor injuries were reported in Canada

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fiskars branded Pole Saw/Pruners, please contact Fiskars to receive instructions on how to destroy and dispose of the product in exchange for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, amputation, bone fractures and/or eye injuries.
