Among the thirty-three (33) recalls the NHTSA announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Volkswagen Group of AmericaVolkswagen Group of America, Inc. (“Volkswagen”), a Herndon, Virginia establishment and subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group of Wolfsburg, Germany, has recalled an estimated 5,426 model year 2021 Audi RS5 Sportback, S5 Sportback, and 2020-2021 Audi A5 Sportback vehicles. marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Electrical System, Exterior Lighting – Rear Light Wiring Harness missing scuff protection

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V737000 reports the Wiring Harness for the Rear Lights could be missing the anti-abrasion protection in the area of the spare Wheel Well.

Logo - AudiAccording to the NHTSA, without the scuff protection, the wires may become damaged during a rear crash, disabling the doors from being opened from the outside, causing a loss of hazard lights, and increasing the risks of crash, motor vehicle collision (“MVC”) or other impact event with consequential serious injury and/or life-changing results.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

What should you do?
Audi will notify registered owners, and dealers will apply scuff protection, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on or about January 22, 2021. Owners may contact Audi Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-253-2834 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Eastern Standard Time (“EST”). Audi’s designation for this recall is 97EU.
