Among the twenty-three (23) recalls the NHTSA announced this month comes news of the following:

Logo - Kia Motors America (“Kia”), an Irvine, California establishment and a subsidiary of Kia Motors Corporation of Seoul, South Korea, has recalled an estimated 294,756 model year 2012-2013 Sorento, 2012-2015 Forte and Forte Koup, 2011-2013 Optima Hybrid, 2014-2015 Soul, and 2012 Sportage vehicles marketed, sold and delivered in the United States.

Recall Category: Engine – Engine damage may cause fire

NHTSA Safety Notification 20V750000 reports an engine compartment fire can occur while driving.

According to the NHTSA, an engine compartment fire increases the risks of fire, explosion, burns and/or smoke inhalation with consequential life-changing or life-ending results.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat lacerations, concussions, bone fractures, amputation, central nervous system (“CNS”) damage and/or internal injuries.

Please note that under 49 United States Code § 30112(a), it is illegal for anyone, including a manufacturer, distributor, dealer or retailer to sell an item of equipment or vehicle that fails to comply with all applicable Federal motor vehicle safety standards.

What should you do?
Kia will notify registered owners, and dealers will inspect the Engine Compartment for fuel and/or engine oil leaks, perform an Engine test and make any repairs, including Engine replacement, as necessary, free of charge. In addition, Kia is currently developing a Knock Sensor Detection System (“KSDS”) software update, which when available, will be performed by dealers free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 27, 2021.

Owners may contact Kia Customer Service toll-free at 1-800-333-4542 during normal business hours, Monday to Friday, Pacific Standard Time (“PST”). Kia’s designation for this recall is SC200.
