Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream Recall [Canada]

Canada/Ottawa: Kawartha Dairy Limited, a Bobcaygeon, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Kawartha Dairy branded Ice Cream products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination and consequential risks of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction, all serious health and safety hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Ice Cream products are subject to this recall:

  • Kawartha Dairy branded Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream, sold in 1.5 L containers with a production date of 03/11/2020 or 04/11/2020 and a UPC of 0 62229 08950 1
  • Kawartha Dairy branded Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream, sold in 11.4 L containers with a production date of 03/11/2020 or 04/11/2020 and a UPC of 0 62229 08150 5
  • Kawartha Dairy branded Mint Chip Ice Cream, sold in 1.5 L containers with a production date of 13/10/2020 or 14/10/2020 and a UPC of 0 62229 08917 4
  • Kawartha Dairy branded Mint Chip Ice Cream, sold in 11.4 L containers with a production date of 13/10/2020 or 14/10/2020 and a UPC of 0 62229 08117 8

==> No item numbers, best-before date codes, expiry dates, regulatory approval designations, registration numbers, agency approval designations or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

These Ice Cream products were known to be marketed, distributed and sold in the Canadian province of Ontario although it is always possible these food products had wider distribution within the country. When in doubt, please contact the manufacturer for specific product information.

According to the CFIA, Kawartha Dairy has recalled certain batch/lots of Kawartha Dairy branded Ice Cream products from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected metal fragment contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Ice Cream identified above.

Please note: while these food products may be close to or past their use-by dates, they may be in your freezers or storage chillers. If you have purchased these products during the time period ranging from October 1, 2020 to December 5, 2020, please check your refrigerators, chillers and/or freezers to ensure these food products have not been stored for future consumption. If found, these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for refund.

In general, if metal or glass fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Kawartha Dairy branded Ice Cream products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> If you have a medical emergency, please contact 9-1-1, your closest hospital or emergency center equipped to properly treat choking, oral injury, internal ingestion, GI tract laceration damage and bowel obstruction.
